Where did the name of your studio come from?
When I opened my business in 2014, I was primarily screen printing. Mesh (n.) is the material in that process which the ink passes through. Mesh (v.) is a word that I felt beautifully depicts the printmaking community. I work out of a CO-OP space in Houston called Burning Bones Press. While I'm printing wedding invitations and pretty little letterpressed goods, the owner is in the other room screen printing music posters with skeletons. Our work is worlds apart, however we share a similar passion and are "meshed" together in this wonderful creative space. There are about 30 members of our studio, and it makes such a difference to feel like a part of something bigger in order to keep growing.

Who is on your team, and how did you come together?
Mesh by Alex is still just me. In early September, Meredith Allison Bonner of Meredith Allison Calligraphy and I just launched a new e-commerce venture called Pret-a-Poster and we are both looking forward to making what was already an amazing partnership official!

How did you get into design and letterpress printing?
I went to The High School for Performing and Visual Art and had a wonderful printmaking teacher. She inspired me to pursue printmaking as my major in college. It wasn't until I moved back to Houston after my studies that I began letterpress printing. I operated a Kluge for a graphic designer in Houston, and when she closed, I started my own company to continue to do what grew to love.

What kind of press do you use?
A Chandler and Price and a Showcard proofing press. I bought the C&P from a man who told me it was once used by nuns in a monastery to print flyers and programs for their services and events!

Which press was used to print the Nicely Noted cards?
The C & P
